Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Setup:
There’s a SharePoint list with 3 fields: Title (single line of text), Date (DateTime) and Descr (Multiline text).
Create a new Calendar view for this list (create view->calendar) use Date for both Begin Date and End Date, Title as week/month/day title.
Now create a new web part page and add this list to it using the Calendar view just created.
Job description:
What I need is when the mouse hovers over an item in the calendar a tooltip should be displayed showing the data from the Descr field. Since the Descr is multiline, only up to first 10 lines should be shown, if there are more than that, then add “…” after 10th line. Please see the screen shot. Assume Descr is auto-generated, so e.g. no need to worry about text containing html tags.
Note that the calendar on the screenshot is “minified” using CSS styles from http://blog.pathtosharepoint.com/2008/10/06/tiny-sharepoint-calendar-1/. I’ll provide the exact CSS we use. It should not matter much for the development, but the solution must be tested and work with those CSS present.
Also note that in production the real page is much more complex, with a bunch of other web parts, connections and javascript code. Therefore the solution must be self-contained.
Additional Notes:
Environment is MOSS 2007 SP2. We have complete control over the environment so we can use both server side and client side scripts, subclass the page itself, etc.
There are a few related articles mentioned here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepoint2010setup/thread/2b82252a-cbd8-4d3c-a584-5ce9ab1dbdb4
The consultant needs to have their own development environment. Deliverable should include exported ASPX page along with CSS/javascript code and a backup of a test site collection which contains the test list and the test page.
