Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I need a scalable, opensource/free solution recommended, designed or custom developed for backing up multiple linux server file systems and MySQL databases from CentOS and Ubuntu Server.
Spec required:
- run from a separate (backup) server, either windows or linux and be easily customisable (adding servers, folders, dbs ect)
- able to tar/zip file system (for example /var/www) and pull from server to local location and save under the current date and time
- take backups of MySQL databases from multiple MySQL servers and save to local location under date in .sql format
- email notification on completion of backup or error
- easily add: additional servers, additional file systems, additional database names
- easily remove the above
- no oneclick/easy restore required
Happy to provide access to test systems for poc or development and discuss the requirements further.
I had previously written scripts for a solution to this problem, however scaling is a pain due to the customisation needed to add a new server or folder, and with no retention period. My current solution runs from the server side and sends to a location, rather than pulling to a central location. Meaning each server has to be changed individually if anything changes.
