Description
I did purchase a domain name a couple of years ago when dabbling but never did anything with it, nor could I really make any sense of what I was supposed to buy as an add on, do with it etc? In setting up my company, I am not looking to do things myself and will hire experts when the time comes to design and set up a sustainable site. However, I don’t like to jump in without knowledge so would like to know the basics of:
What happens when you purchase a premium domain name?
Does it matter who you buy it off?
What happens when you purchase a domain name?
Do you buy outright or do you continue to pay an annual fee?
Who are the top hosting providers? How do they work and what do they do?
What do I need to consider?
When you buy a domain name can you swap hosts?
What happens when you buy a name but but don’t develop a site for a while?
I would like someone to spend about an hour with me on Skype to teach me the basics I’ve mentioned here, plus anything else you think I should know, and to answer related questions on this topic. I am not techy so you will need to break it down for me but I am a very quick learner. I'd like this lesson to take place in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks in advance.

Hi. The site name you buy could be annually or every two years and if you don't pay yearly you could lose it and someone else can buy the domain address. It doesn't matter if you host it or not, as long as you pay for the name you get to keep it - hosting a site on it is a separate issue - usually its available for a slightly extra yearly fee from whoever you register your site name with (yes there are good and bad ones and you can change or host elsewhere). Its one side of where you simply own the name and another if you decide to host the site itself. It's not rocket science but you will need to access and know a bit about what to do on both sides of this. You also use the hosting account to install the site and choose a template and upload files. Then within your now installed site, you created, you can go and edit stuff. There are dashboard panels etc also not rocket science. With your lesson ask them to walk you through those actual steps while on the call. Good luck.
