Description
Experience Level: Expert
Please do not trying to email, connect on LinkedIn, Skype or any other platform. I would like all proposals in one place on PPH not over numerous platforms.
Our User Interface is where our client configure our software. The user interface was originally design some 6+ years ago and has grown considerable since then. The site is fully functional but dated. We are not looking to change the functionality just the look/feel and user experience of the site.
From my perspective I see the final architecture being:
HTML Layer: Brand new responsive design HTML layout, broken into separate HTML segments (header, footer, etc...) to prevent each page from having duplicate code in it. This would be served via a Java based web framework, JSP for example.
JavaScript: User experience and app interaction would be provided through a brand new set of JS components. Data required for the page would be AJAX loaded via JS components communicating with the our Java backend over HTTPS. Data would be returned in JSON format for inclusion in the page. Our developers would be responsible for building API functions that return the data as we are best positioned to understand the database and what existing parts of the Java system we can re-use. We would collaborate with you at the start of a feature to understand your data requirements and would develop the API code as you develop the front end.
Data submission. Where a page acquires data from the user and wants to save this, it would formulate the data into JSON and submit it for processing via the API. Again, our developers would be responsible for building the API to save the data in the database (after validation etc...). Invalid data would be rejected with an error message to be sent to the user.
The key to success here is having the ability to separate out the backend complexity from the user experience complexity, allowing both teams to work concurrently, hence the approach.
As part of any quote we would be keen to see some wireframes or story boards of how you see the user interaction playing out, the current system is functional, but clunky and this engagement is driven by the need for a rich user experience.
The new design of the User Interface will need to be localised.
Note: This task is a phased approach, allowing us to enhance pages in stages. The initial task is currently 3 pages but I would estimate this is probably 5% of the overall task.
Tasks required:
1) Re-skinning: This is the styling work, and is a complete overhaul of current design. Bring it up to date and match with the corporate website branding. Using modern fonts, colour-schemes and template structures, you will improve the look and feel of the site, and make using it a more pleasant and modern experience.
2) User-centered approach: This applies to the 3 (GMT) pages, and then subsequently to any pages we work on in future.
You will make the user interface more accessible and intuitive by emphasising the more important areas of the page, which users will need to access quickly, edit and click most often, and minimize areas which are less important, creating a more clear and user-friendly experience. You will analyse the page from a users point of view and make the page work best for them. New buttons, layouts, icons and colour-schemes will also be introduced to improve UX. You will provide and iterate mock ups before going ahead with any changes.
3) Minimise page reloading: where necessary you will introduce Javascript forms and popups to prevent the user needing to click and reload different pages to make edits and view data. Instead, Edit and View buttons will open a popup, keeping the user on the same page, and making the UX much smoother and quicker, whilst minimising stress on the server.
You will also insert textual instructions and guides to ensure the user is clear on what action to take on the page, including tooltips if relevant and/or necessary, vastly improving the usability of the site and ensuring users make the most of your extensive functionality.
Summary: This job is to revise and revamp the current skin of 3 pages (GMT) of the site, and implement a greatly improved style sheet with various UX and UI improvements - which could then be used as a template for the rest of the site. You will not modify any of the existing functionality, impacting only the the look, feel and usability of the site.
Next steps;
1. You will register your interest with an reference sites and experience
2. We will provide details of the pages
3. You will provide mock-up/examples and a quotation
