Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 3 - 4 weeks
General information for the website: It is an environmental initiative
Kind of development: Customization of existing website
Num. of web pages/modules: prob 1page and 1 map/d'base on WWW
Description of every page/module: The page http://www.greenarc.org/projects/ should be replaced by a simple page that incorporates a public map+ project database module from e.g. googlemaps or similar.
Description of requirements/features: I can't edit the existing flash component. So I would like the replacement page to be capable of being edited if necessary by someone who can use notepad safely on a page of css/javascript. With the map/database module that would be embedded/framed/wrapped by the simple page I would like to replace the existing static historic project data popup windows with something interactive. I want an approved group of authors to be able to add their own pins and successful project details. That way more people can take ownership of the delivery of the overall environmental objectives. It would be useful if the map/database could be shared with agreed subscribers only, and should be capable of being moderated. It would be great if the popup information window (e.g. on mouseover or clicking) enabled an image as well as text as per existing.
If it is made easy to populate then apart from demonstrating the concept the contract would not need to repopulate the whole map/database with the projects shown on the existing webpage. All you need to do is to have thought through the issues (including multiple pins on a location) and got it ready for others to rebuild.
The style of the new page needs to match the existing site, whatever you think of the existing site!
I gather that Google has some requirements about APIs etc. Whether it is Google or another mapping tool that is used I would want control of the component to pass back to us and would want all the issues with Google or whoever sorted. I don't want a situation where Google (or whoever) are emailing you or us and it isn't cheap to fix whatever they are moaning about.
The googlemap or whatever needs to relate to the GreenArc area. You can see where that is from the site and I can provide a GIS theme.
CMS and Admin requirements: At the moment I have been altering pages manually and ftping them to the server. So you will need to examine the GreenArc website and use appropriate references; I don't want to be fixing page refs simply because of a shift in platform/host.
Extra notes: *** At this stage I am just looking for quotes and some chat from you to convince me you know what you are talking about. I won't necessarily go for the cheapest price, so don't pare your price down to a point where you will want to come back for more money - be realistic. ***
I can decompile the existing flash with Sothink decompiler and let you have all the sprites etc.
