Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I have a small project. I present an internet radio show. I used to be a ColdFusion web developer and wrote a website with a SQL Server back-end for the programme which holds all the details for artist, albums etc and playlists. The site is pretty much exactly what I want from a functionality perspective, and the database includes data for over 600 shows now so is a huge archive. Problem is that my hosts are going to stop their coldfusion hosting soon and I therefore need to have the site redeveloped. I am no longer a developer and don't have the time to learn a new language.
The website is www.themillertellshertale.net
The hosts recommended I use ASP.net which could then utilise the existing SQLServer database, and to be honest this would be my preferred option.
However, I've been told by someone else that wordpress might be a possibility, if the database can be exported and used as it's non-standard tables.
In the database the primary tables are:
tblSpydaArtist – holds artist name, website and twitter handle
tblSpydaAlbum – holds album information and includes artistID from tblSpydaArtist
tblSpydaTrack – holds track names and includes albumID from tblSpydaAlbum (and maybe also artistID)
tblSpydaRecordCo – holds record company info includes albumID from tblSpydaAlbum
When adding a new playlist, I select all the tracks from a long list, then this info goes into a temporary table (temptracks) the contents of which are overwritten every time I create a new show. I then use this to create the actual playlist.
There are 2 playlist tables:
tblSpydaPlaylist (track info)
tblSpydaPlaylistInfo (top level)
The former holds the topline data – show number, broadcast date, creation date. The other has the IDs for the artist, album and track and sortorder plus the ID from the other playlist table.
Then on the actual front end playlist page I use the playlist table to pull the correct text from the artist, album, track and record company tables to output the actual playlist.
There are also admin pages to amend artist name, artist info, album info and track info as well as a basic search.
I do not have a local copy of the database, but I can create .csv files of all the data and grant access via mylittleadmin.
There is an admin back-end where I add all the information + a page which outputs the information in a variety of different formats so that I can post it elsewhere.
I am looking for the new version to have pretty much exactly the same functionality as the existing site possibly with one or two enhancements (amending/reordering the playlist for example).
The show doesn't generate any income, so I don't have a massive budget, but it's really important to me that I get it redeveloped before hosting ceases. I have no idea what this would cost, so estimates welcome.
There's no deadline as yet, but I'd be looking to get it done in the next couple of months.
Many thanks

Hi Karen, Can I ask if you have considered just hosting your CF site somewhere else? I currently host a few CF sites myself so there are people / places out there that could help.

Hi, thanks for the invite. May I ask if the database is an MS SQL Server or MySQL database?
Karen M.15 Jan 2017Hi David. It is currentlying SQL Server.
