We have a Wordpress system that allows a content type to be Facebook liked. We want to order the content by popularity based on the likes.
In effect we need to read the number of likes from the facebook like box (rather than count the likes ourselves) and order the content accordingly. A problem is that we can only read the number of likes after the page has already rendered so it seems difficult to do it in realtime but a small delay of like updated every minute would be acceptable (or something more cunning cause you know how to get a live update of the likes for each bit of content from facebook).
The current system simply counts the number of times the like button is clicked and rapidly gets out of sync with the actual number displayed by Facebook in it's like box and therefore just 'appears' to order via some random system.
The site is likely to get a decent amount of traffic and the solution needs to be robust.
