I am interested in a quote to redevelop my existing website. I am an independent specialist bookseller and publisher so the site must reflect product offering (for sale) and also the service offering via the CMS editable pages.
We are a small company so any offering must fit within my budgetary constraints.
Attached is a list of classifications for product that can be sold online (this may grow of course) this method of classification is not confirmed as I may need to resort to classifications as provided by my wholesalers data feed.
Also attached is some older documents where I have looked into redeveloping the site but not got any further so may be useful for background look and feel/design. Don’t feel any of the attached is fixed it is all open to discussion including colour palette / brand.
I shall also be publishing “ebooks” or digital content so the ability to order a downloadable file is also required in addition to ordering physical product for shipping.
Now whilst I also publish my own product which is therefore easy to administer and enter the details myself, I also import product and distribute. This is also manageable at a manual setting up level. The main issue is with the larger stock listing which I use a wholesaler for and they can provide “webservices” XML data feeds. Ideally I want to pull the stock feed into a temporary “pot” on the server, query it against my title listing (my title listing would be compiled and updated by me entering at an ISBN or EAN level a series of these product codes). Anything in my “pot” then is continued to be fed into the online store, using latest pricing and availability data. The reason for doing this is because they may have a data feed of many hundreds of thousands of lines and I only need the information on say 3000. How this works is up to you but it could say be via an Xcel macro convert their data into a format that the store needs and could run daily or weekly.
The wholesaler also does drop shipping for me so when they fulfil on my behalf they also issue order confirmation, despatch routine info – this also should be fed into the site to enable the customer to see status etc.
Anything not in stock but marked as available can have a report “available to order” or such like based on the supplier report. The I.T. chaps at the wholesaler will be able to assist in any developing to make the link work. I can send a sample data file if required. The other thing to consider with data is potentially my classifications won’t work so we may need to review this.
An idea of mine is to enter the product ISBN, this is then pulled up on screen and I then assign my own store classification to it, click \"apply\" and it goes to the right categories.
I also need the ability to control prices shown depending user login i.e. public facing site all RRP or “my price” however I have some trade customers so they need to see a different price controlled by the admin? So here I would set up a trade discount for my customer at the backend so when he logs in he sees discounted prices on top of the RRP.
We also require banner ad serving so I can create my own adverts for offers or new titles, plus allow 3rd parties to advertise on my site and have external links.
I have not included information relating to how ecommerce stores work including trusted shops/SSL, as this should be standard subject to approving costs and I would expect you to advise me also on best practice.
The site should also integrate / link to a Facebook or other social media such as Twitter etc that I may wish to sign up to
