I run a consulting business, providing advice and training in a particular technical field. I want to create a Wiki-like content management system, first for use on my own Mac network, but in due course for publishing on the web. In the early days, I expect the CMS to have less than 100 pages, but in due course this might expand considerably if the website is successful. I want someone to build the intranet site and the website and provide some advice on how best to set up and host the website so that it is extensible and cost effective.

I am familiar with using databases as an end-user but I have no expertise in building websites or CMSs. However, I want a system to be built which will allow a non-technical person like myself to set up new pages and categories within the CMS without referring back to the developer. I want the system to be built in something that is easier for others to maintain and is inexpensive, so I started looking at opensource systems such as Plone or Joomla but concluded they were beyond my limited IT skills.

The website should initially have a top menu of 6 items: home, clients, services, resources, about and contact. Included within these pages would be the usual web features such as maps, blogs, googleAds, search, surveys, etc. The CMS would be contained within the %u201Cresources%u201D menu and would need to have a wikipedia-type structure e.g. overview, topics, areas, categories, glossaries, articles, with content templates so that as each entity/article is created it can be organised in a pre-defined manner using a number of templates. The hyperlinks should be accessible from all menu items within the website not just the Resources page. Within the resources section, I need to be able to embed text and pictures in the webpages but also to attach other content such as powerpoint slides and videos.

Perhaps later the site will be become collaborative, but for the foreseeable future, the content will just be edited by me and my team so the site does not have to open for other users to edit the content.

I have not finalised what I want in terms of look and feel and therefore would prefer something that can be changed without impacting the content or structure. In the meantime, something very clean and simple would be best %u2013 lots of white space and text. The Resources part of the website should appear like a wiki so that users understand how to use it.
