Description
Seconds after I open a project file, it freezes and then says "not responding".
Problem started 2 days ago.
Even though I only imported home-made video files from my phone (via my SSD), I believe one or more of those files may be corrupt.
I can't delete them, though, since the software, as I say, doesn't give me a chance to!
Or perhaps the problem is something else altogether!
What is the answer?
Gina A.

Another option is to move to DaVinci Resolve. I moved and will never go back.

It can be frustrating when Adobe Premiere Pro keeps crashing, but there are several potential solutions to resolve this issue. Let's try the following steps to troubleshoot and fix the problem:
Update Premiere Pro: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro. Updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements that could resolve the crashing issue.
Clear Media Cache: Corrupted media cache files can lead to crashes. Go to "Edit" > "Preferences" > "Media Cache" in Premiere Pro, then click on "Clean" to clear the media cache. You can also choose to delete cache files manually from your system.
Check Hardware Compatibility: Verify that your computer meets the minimum system requirements to run Adobe Premiere Pro smoothly. Ensure that your graphics card drivers are up to date as well.
Reset Preferences: Resetting Premiere Pro preferences can help resolve software-related issues. Hold down the "Alt" key (or "Option" key on Mac) while launching Premiere Pro. A window will appear asking if you want to reset the preferences.
Disable GPU Acceleration: Temporarily disable GPU acceleration by going to "File" > "Project Settings" > "General" and set the "Video Rendering and Playback" to "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only." This will help identify if the GPU is causing the crashes.
Test with a New Project: Create a new project and import a few video files to check if the crashing persists. If it works fine, it might indicate that the issue lies with the specific project file.
Test Individual Media Files: To identify potentially corrupt files, import your home-made video files one by one into a new project. Observe if the crash occurs after importing a specific file. If so, that file might be causing the problem.
Repair or Reinstall Premiere Pro: If the issue persists, try repairing or reinstalling Premiere Pro. Corrupted installation files can sometimes lead to crashes.
If the problem persists despite trying these steps, please let me know, and I'll be happy to assist further.
