Description
Experience Level: Expert
Reveal new job level framework – will provide diagram. Illustrate some arrows to demo different paths that can be taken through the framework.
Show that all roles have required skills / competencies and picking up these transferable skills is how you move through the organisation. Give example of "customer focus" being a skill needed in both Sales Advisor positions and Category Management.
Explain appraisal process is how you build skills. Illustrate someone being scared of appraisal and then explain that appraisal is just a conversation, it’s not about being judged, it’s about identifying how we grow, together. It's not scary, it's an opportunity.
Illustrate that over time roles grow in complexity so even if we don’t want a promotion, we have to develop in order to keep up with role (I have a diagram that can be used to illustrate)
Illustrate the 70:20:10 concept of learning: (have an image that can be used) - learning is easy, it's mostly done on the job with the help of people we know.
70% of development comes from your everyday job – learn whilst you do
20% of development comes from others – learn from people that already have the skills
10% of development comes from a training “event” – that event can be as basic as watching a short video.
Illustrate someone finding competencies listed on their job description and then looking those competencies up in the competency handbook (will provide both documents)
Illustrate completing an appraisal document (will provide template, just need to illustrate it being completed) - there are 4 sections. Explain requirement to repeat exercise for functional competence too.
Show someone going to meeting with manager and comparing notes and agreeing a plan. Manager will have prepared ahead of meeting too and the meeting is to compare notes and agree a plan.
Show someone working towards goals and positive outcome!
