2 raw images for retouching

I've 2 images which I'm hoping your expertise in PS can 'save'. They're slightly soft but I'm aware of techniques which can enhance sharpness, but you'd know more about that! The image of the guy in the kitchen needs that, and also exposure/colour balance adjustments.
The image of the two guys needs sharpening and also the table corner removing from bottom right.
I'd welcome your thoughts on how else to give these images the best chance they have, of achieving the publication standard needed, to make it into a book of portraits I'm getting published in 18 months time.
