Freelance Motion Designer — Abstract Animation

1-minute sample, followed by 8 videos of approximately 5 minutes each

About the project

We’re looking for an experienced motion designer to create a series of highly abstract, visually sophisticated animated videos, built around supplied voiceovers.

The project starts with a one-minute sample to establish the visual direction and animation quality. Once the sample is approved, you will produce eight full-length videos, approximately five minutes each.

We’re looking for the precision, restraint, and polish associated with premium Apple or Meta motion design—but with an original visual language.

Creative direction

Very abstract. Minimal. Crisp. Beautifully animated.

Rather than showing literal objects or illustrating the narration word for word, use movement, shape, light, texture, and composition to communicate ideas.

The visuals might include flowing ribbons, transforming geometric forms, translucent layers, shifting patterns, fluid connections, or carefully controlled particles. These are starting points, not a prescribed style—we’re looking for someone who can bring a distinctive creative approach.

Do not use paintings, framed artworks, photographs, characters, literal scenes, or stock-footage montages. Avoid generic explainer icons, dashboard-style interfaces, and template-driven animation.

The animation should feel intentional and cohesive, with sharp details, considered lighting, smooth transitions, and confident use of negative space. Typography can be used sparingly, but the piece should be driven primarily by abstract motion rather than text on screen.

Abstract should not mean random: changes in rhythm, form, scale, and connection should support the ideas and emotional progression of the voiceover.

Project structure
Phase 1: One-minute sample

Create a fully animated 60-second sample, using supplied narration.

This is not just a storyboard, a set of still images, or a slideshow. It should demonstrate the proposed visual language, animation quality, pacing, transitions, and synchronization with the voiceover.

We will agree on a concept and a small selection of style frames before you animate the sample. The approved sample will establish the design and quality standard for the full series.

Phase 2: Eight five-minute videos

Following sample approval, produce eight videos of approximately five minutes each—around 40 minutes of finished animation in total.

The series should feel visually consistent while introducing enough variation to keep each video engaging. We need someone who can sustain a strong abstract visual language across longer sequences, rather than repeating a short loop or stretching a few ideas.

Audio and materials

We will provide the scripts, voiceovers, and available reference material.

Keep the supplied voiceovers unchanged. Do not rewrite, rerecord, replace, speed up, or retime the narration. Build the visual pacing around the existing delivery. Any additional music or sound design should be agreed upon before use.

Deliverables

Provide the completed one-minute sample and, following approval, all eight full-length videos. Final delivery should include high-quality 16:9 MP4 exports at a minimum of 1920 × 1080, plus organized, editable project files and associated assets.

Please identify any third-party assets, licensing requirements, or generative tools used. Final work must be suitable for commercial use.

Who we’re looking for

You should have a strong portfolio in abstract motion design, experimental animation, premium technology films, or design-led 2D/3D work.

Excellent composition, timing, transitions, and attention to detail are essential. We’re particularly interested in designers who can develop an original visual system and carry it through a substantial series.

After Effects, Cinema 4D, Blender, Houdini, or an equivalent professional workflow are welcome.
