Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I am looking to hire a translator on an on-going basis to read old Portuguese manuscripts for me, and pull out some information from each e.g. the date, some names, and a general description of what the manuscript is about in English. Many are of a legal nature.
There are many hundreds to go through. They will scanned and sent in batches to the translator.
Due to the large quantity that needs to be processed, I am expecting only 15 minutes of translation / summary work on each of the smaller documents (more time is available for larger documents). It is really just the first and last page of each manuscript that needs to be worked on.
The manuscripts date between the 17th and 19th centuries, so an ability to read old Portuguese and some experience reading old calligraphic writing will be very useful indeed.
Initially, I would like to start with just a 'test' batch to see how things turn out.
And then to supply scans of 20-40 or so manuscripts a month for an on-going period. That would make roughly 5-10 hours of work a month, which means this project could be combined with other activities (i.e. it's not full-time).
