Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are seeking an experienced MySQL developer to analyse and optimise slow SQL queries for our website hosted on a shared server environment. Our monitoring has identified a significant number of slow queries that are adversely affecting server performance and website loading speeds.
Background:
During routine server monitoring, we discovered that our website is generating slow MySQL queries that are consuming extensive CPU and memory resources, leading to a degradation in performance.
Scope of Work:
Analysis of Slow Queries:
Review the log file located at (****) containing 1,181 slow queries.
Identify key factors contributing to the slow performance.
Optimise the top 10 slowest queries, which have execution times ranging from 29.1 to 44.1 seconds.
Implement query restructuring and indexing strategies to reduce execution time.
Testing and Validation:
Test the optimised queries to ensure they meet performance improvements.
Validate that changes do not negatively impact the functionality of the website.
Reporting:
Provide a comprehensive report detailing changes made, before and after execution times, and any recommendations for further improvements.
Deliverables:
A detailed report of analysis and optimisations performed.
Implementation of query optimisations in the live environment.
Final validation report showing performance improvements.
Timeframe:
The project needs to be completed within three days of commencement.
Selection Criteria:
Proven experience in MySQL and database performance tuning.
Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
Previous experience with high-traffic websites on shared servers is preferable.

Would a better approach for your website not be to generate a cached version?
This will provide you with several advantages:
* No risk of changing SQL queries in a way that causes new problems - i.e. if it's not broken don't fix it.
* Better security - i.e. your database being hacked won't result in your website being vandalised.
* The database is protected against DDOS attacks via the website.
* The cached website will be the fastest option because no database connection is required.
