## The Pub Index – UK Pub Rating & Review Platform
I am looking for a full-stack web developer to build the first version of **The Pub Index**, a new UK pub discovery and rating platform.
I currently have my own database of pubs that I have personally visited and rated in Excel. I now want to develop this into a scalable website where people can discover pubs, view my official Pub Index ratings and reviews, create accounts and submit their own ratings.
The website will initially focus on England but should be built so it can eventually expand throughout the UK.
### Two Separate Rating Systems
A key requirement is keeping these completely separate:
**1. The Pub Index Rating**
My own editorial rating for pubs I have personally visited and reviewed. This includes an overall score, category scores and written review.
**2. Community Rating**
Ratings submitted by registered website users.
For pubs I haven't personally reviewed, the page could show:
**Pub Index Rating: Not Yet Rated**
**Community Rating: 7.8/10 (42 ratings)**
### England-Wide Pub Database
I do not want to manually create thousands of individual pub pages.
I need a scalable database containing pubs throughout England. I am open to recommendations regarding the most appropriate legally usable pub/location data source or API.
Each pub should ideally have its own automatically generated page containing information such as name, town/city, county and postcode.
I also need the ability to manually add or edit pubs.
### Website Features
Version 1 should ideally include:
* Homepage
* Searchable/browsable pub database
* Individual pub pages
* Official Pub Index ratings and reviews
* Separate community ratings
* User registration/login
* Ability for registered users to rate pubs
* Automatic community rating calculation
* Rankings (Best Overall, Beer Garden, Service, Value etc.)
* Search/filtering by pub/location
* Mobile-friendly design
* About/How We Rate section
Users should eventually be able to browse geographically, e.g.:
**England → Surrey → Reigate → Pub**
### Admin System
This is very important.
I am not a web developer, so I need a simple admin area where I can:
* Add/edit pubs
* Enter my official ratings
* Add/edit reviews
* Update pub information
* Manage community content/users
* Mark pubs as officially reviewed
My existing ratings are stored in Excel, so I would also like to initially import this data from Excel/CSV if practical.
### Scalability
The website should be database-driven rather than manually creating individual pages.
It should be capable of eventually supporting thousands of pubs and leave room for future features such as photos, favourites, pub-owner profiles, achievements, personalised recommendations, social features and potentially a mobile app.
These additional features **do not need to be built in Version 1**.
### Ownership
I need to retain ownership/control of the website, source code, database, domain and associated accounts.
Third-party hosting/database/API accounts should ideally be created under my ownership so I am not permanently dependent on one developer.
### Your Proposal
Please explain:
1. What technology you would recommend and why.
2. How you would create/source the England-wide pub database.
3. How the user account and community rating system would work.
4. How I would manage pubs and ratings myself after launch.
5. Your estimated development time.
6. Expected ongoing hosting/API costs.
7. Any additional costs I should be aware of.
**Please also provide examples of previous directory, review, marketplace or database-driven websites you have developed.**
My priority is building a strong, scalable Version 1 rather than trying to include every possible feature immediately.
