Custom designed Sharepoint site

I have a Sharepoint account and a client who wants a site, but they're asking for it to be custom designed using their branding, not using Sharepoint's "out of the box" templates. I understand html and even CSS, but some of the design customizations go beyond my areas of expertise. I need a programmer with some experience using Sharepoint who can go into the site and customize the CSS of buttons and formatting to match an approved look and feel.
