General information for the business: I have a VPS server with 1and1 UK which has been infected with malware. I need the VPS disinfected and secured.
Description of requirements/functionality: I have a VPS server with 1and1 UK which has been infected with malware. 1and1 UK Abuse Department has therefore disabled the "HTTP-service" of my VPS until I fix the issue and I need this done to enable my hosted website be accessed. The following email from 1and1 will explain the details of what needs to be done:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We received information that your 1&1 Server is currently attacking other servers. Please find details on the attack at the end this message.
It seems that your server has been infected with malware. The attackers have most likely used the vulnerability called "Shellshock" to gain access to your server. For detailed information about this vulnerability, refer to press pages and our 1&1 Status page at:
www.status-1and1.com
Please note: We have disabled the "HTTP-service" as it presents a serious threat to your safety.
Below you will find step-by-step instructions on how to restore the security of your 1&1 Server:
1. Update your server and Bash shell.
2. Delete any scripts that hackers have loaded scripts onto your server.
3. If you cannot resolve the problem, re-start your server.
Check your backup data for any vulnerabilities and malicious software.
4. After completing the system cleanup, change the file system permissions
so that services can resume. The following command changes the file
permissions:
chattr -i /etc/init.d/
chmod +x /etc/init.d/
You can execute this command via Shell.
By following the outlined steps, you are successfully protecting yourself against criminal attacks on your 1&1 Server.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please only bid if you can comfortably fix this issue and then secure the server against further infections. I have had someone do this job here before and didn't get it right. I will provide server access detail to the chosen freelancer.
Kind regards
Specific technologies required: Network Administration, System Admin, Internet Security,
