Hi,
The key point here is what command to send over and how to run the relays. I assume this is RS 232 via USB cable and it accepts a command of turning it on.
Sending such a low level command is done by binary code called from Excel via API in dll(s). However it should be known what and where to send.
So any documentation driver or protocol of how these relays work will be helpful and will make me confidant of sending a proposal.
NikolayMark H.17 Jul 2017Bought from Amazon! USB connection. None of my PC's have Rs232 ports!

Don't have relays yet, due early next week.
Nikolay T.17 Jul 2017Hi
It is as I said it is an USB device and when you plug the usb cable it will ask you to install USB to RS232 virtual ports driver. On your machine you will see under device manager Ports com and lpt something like com4, com5 and so on.
The problem is a bit of testing I can do the job but than you have to test it and it could be more than once testings. We can do that when the devices dome for sure.

Hi Mark
I have sent you the proposal based on the details provided in your earlier replies.
Please do have a look and let me know your thoughts.
Cheers

Hi Mark,
How do you plan to connect the USB to the relays? Will each relay have its own USB connection to the computer?
Are you designing the relays and comms interface yourself, or are you using some off-the-shelf units?

Hi Mark
Can you provide some more details about the project so that I can understand the requirements better and let you know whehther I will be able to do this.
Regards
AriMark H.06 Jul 2017Thanks for the interest.
The project is for my new shop which deals in VR. We have 6 Lounges featuring different VR setups from racing cars to flight sims and beyond. The business plan is to rent these suits out to the general public at £xx per hour.
Each suite has an old PC that runs several LCD monitors displaying the Suite Name, current status (in use/vacant), current time and time left (if in use). This is a pretty simple VBA program running under excel. (will send you a copy when I have tidied it up a bit!)
What I need is several relays via the USB to do the following :-
Relay 1 to engage when "Start" macro runs
Relay 2 to engage when "Time Left" = 0
Relay 3 to engage if "Pause" macro runs
Relay 4 to engage if Emergency Stop (physical button) is activated (easy bit!)
Relay 5 to engage if "Assistance" button is pressed (again easy)
All relays will drive LED indicators. A panel of these will be located by the Control Desk so the operators can see the status of each suite at glance and respond as required. Relays 4&5 might be linked to a small sounder.
Don't worry about the drive electronics; I am an experienced electronics engineer. Its the interface and VBA Code that I need help with!
Hope this gives you enough to work on a price for me.
Best regards
Mark

Hello Mark,
Have you carried out any research on this issue? Do you already have the relay's?

Hi Mark
Thank you for the invite.
I do not have much experience in hard2are software integrations, so not sure about the scope.
Thanks
Ari
