Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are a small social enterprise. We got a grant to support vulnerable children in their language education. And we are looking for a professional code writer interested in a long-term cooperation.
The software is an English course. It is addressed to preschool children (2-6 years old). Its structure consists of lessons made up from slides (word+audio, picture+audio, short video or animation)
We will supply the basic content of the lessons.
Users should be able to modify the lessons (plug in and edit their own data e.g. pictures or audio). They should be able to create new lessons within the categories and set up new categories by adding more slides. The slides can be downloaded from users’ own library or from an online library (available on our website). An example of software using this method is Little Reader on http://www.brillkids.com/free-trial.php. Our software will be less advanced; we won’t have as many functions as in Little Reader. And sample tutorial how user can modify lessons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fufSOsH00o0
Type of software: IOS - downloadable version and for Android tablets.
We already have a Wordpress template which can be used (if suitable) to install the software on it.
Time for completing the job: 6 weeks (negotiable before starting the work).
STRUCTURE:
Lessons are presented in the form of slides (like in PowerPoint presentations). Each lesson contains of few modules, which are built of different types of slides. Lessons are grouped into categories (eg. My family). At the end of each category children can read an e-book.
Slide types:
1. a word (or a phrase, a sentence, a page of text) + audio (e.g. a child sees cat and hears “cat”);
2. a picture + audio (a child sees an illustration or photo of a cat and hears “cat” or hears a phrase e.g. “Can you meow like a cat?”);
3. Short video/ animation + audio (a child watches a short video or animation of a cat)
4. Game
• A child sees two pictures and has to point the one that he hears.
• A child sees a detailed picture (of e.g. a room) and has to point to the thing he is asked to find (e.g. “Where is a teddy bear?”)
Slides should have a separate space at the bottom to add Polish translation of the text or audio.
Each day a child watches a new lesson built of these modules.
E.g. Lesson 1
Module Content
Words +audio Mum, Dad, brother, grandma, grandpa
Pictures +audio Mum, Dad, brother, grandma, grandpa
Words +audio wave, smile, stand, sit, drink
Pictures +audio wave, smile, stand, sit, drink
Animations +audio My Mum is smiling. My Dad is waving. My Grandma is sitting. My Grandpa is standing. My brother is drinking.
Game Choose the right picture
Reward slide Well done! + clapping hands
Users decide how many times a day they want to show the lesson. When a lesson is showed second time the order of slides within a module changes (automatic shuffling)
We should be able to modify the structure of lessons by adding or taking away modules after the first version of the software is tested and we get feedback from parents and teachers how children responded.
MAIN TOOLS
1. E-book reader – simple application where books in pdfs can transformed into e-books (we have 12 titles so far)
2. Editing words: user can change the font type, colour and letter casing of the words
3. Picture Editor – basic: crop and resize photos, adjust brightness and colour contrast, draw basic lanes and shapes
4. Voice Recorder – to record and add own audio to flash cards (eg. child’s name)
5. Online library – parents can export their own lessons to share with others and upload from our website.
6. Simple statistics - to monitor child’s learning progress
The files can be only open with our software (unique file extensions – to protect our content from copying).
ACCESS:
The software + content will be both downloadable from our website (licence key after purchase) and installed from a DVD. IOS - downloadable version and for Android tablets.
It will also be available on the website in a form of a free trial (limited functions, for limited time e.g. 2 weeks).
