Script to place an image on a new layer in many InDesign docs

I have thousands of documents, so script must be robust and be able to wait for network delays, all of the same page size although variable page counts. I want a script that will place an existing graphic on a new layer in the same place (this is relative for right and left sided pages) on every page of every document except the first page.

Script needs to be pointed at a folder and then open every Indesign document it finds in subfolders.

a Progress bar would be nice. a log of file names processed successfully and unsuccessfully.

Mac OS, Indesign 6 but shortly Indesign Cloud, I presume Javascript but Applescript cool too.

I have some knowledge of both so commenting to allow tweaks in the future.
