Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 1 - 2 weeks
General information for the business: We are a plugin developer that needs to check on some compatability
Description of requirements/functionality: I need you to generate a list of which of the top 1000 WordPress plugins use the wp_mail function. That is to say, which of the top 500 plugins send email through WordPress.
Top 1000 should be determined by the popularity rating on wordpress.org: https://wordpress.org/plugins/browse/popular/
You should write a script which determines which are the top 1,000, then crawls through the svn repository for each, sniffing out the sourcecode for instances of wp_mail.
For each plugin which uses wp_mail please record the plugin name, repository url, and date the plugin was last updated.
I would like the results presented as a spreadsheet or csv file.
Specific technologies required: Api integration, probably python and/or django.
Extra notes: Here are some apis you can use:
http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress.org_API
http://wpapi.org
I'm unsure if you can determine popularity using those apis, so you may have to scrape wordpress.org.
