Freelance Brief: 3D Custom Kit Project

Project Overview

My client is one of the fastest-growing performance and training leotard brands worldwide. They want to elevate the customer experience by launching an interactive 3D custom kit platform where gymnasts, clubs, and federations can view, interact with, and customize designs online.

There is a bank of 100 designs that need to be uploaded into the system, with the full customer journey implemented (design selection → customization → ordering).

Key Deliverables

Platform Recommendation & Setup

Research and recommend the most suitable Shopify-integrated platform.

Provide cost/benefit analysis of chosen platform.

Set up the backend infrastructure to host 3D models and workflows.

3D Design Upload & Integration

Upload and configure 100 existing kit designs.

Ensure designs are interactive, scalable, and high-quality in 3D.

Apply options for customization (colours, embellishments, logo placement).

Customer Journey Implementation

Seamless flow from design selection → customization → add to cart → checkout within Shopify.

Mobile-optimized experience.

Integration with client’s current Shopify store.

Testing & Quality Assurance

Test full customer journey.

Ensure stability, responsiveness, and load speed (desktop & mobile).

Training & Handover

Provide documentation or training so the internal team can maintain and update the platform.

Platform Options (Shopify-Compatible)

We require Shopify integration. Suitable platforms include:

Kickflip – Great for complex product customization, live previews, strong Shopify integration, handles unlimited variants, but higher pricing.

Threekit – Enterprise-grade 3D & AR visuals, strong scalability for large product libraries, excellent Shopify integration, but higher cost and longer onboarding.

Zakeke – Easy Shopify plug-in, supports 2D & 3D, AR, and production-ready files, but may have limitations in handling large asset libraries efficiently.

Angle 3D Configurator / Aircada – Built for Shopify, strong mobile UX, AR features, scalable, but may have limitations depending on plan (e.g. number of models/textures).

The freelancer will evaluate these and recommend the best option for the client’s needs, based on performance, cost, and ability to manage 100+ designs.

Skills & Experience Required

Proven experience with 3D customization platforms integrated with Shopify.

Strong understanding of Shopify product management and e-commerce flows.

Experience handling large asset libraries (100+ product variations).

Knowledge of 3D modelling, asset optimisation, and interactive rendering.

Ability to deliver a polished, user-friendly experience.

Timeline

Platform recommendation: within 2 weeks of project start.

Upload & implementation of 100 designs: 8–10 weeks.

Testing, feedback, and launch: by [insert target date].

Budget

To be agreed based on scope and platform choice.
