Description
Experience Level: Entry
General information for the business: Arduino Controlled Art Project
Kind of development: New program from scratch
Num. of modules: 5
Description of every module: 5 Objectives / 5 pieces of code all being used to affect neon artwork.
230v Neon Sign power supply units have external Control wires that allow the PSU to be controlled using arduino / PWM.
I'm looking for someone to provide me with the following for each piece of code:
1.Parts list
2. Wiring diagram
3. Code
4. Debugging / adjustments once the circuit is built
I will build the circuit and test from my end.
1. Neon becomes brighter / dimmer according to viewer proximity.
Aims:
Neon reacts to viewer proximity, starting at 0 brightness at max viewer distance and increasing gradually to full brightness as viewer comes closer.
Requirements:
To be able to set the max distance the sensor picks up on in order to stop the sensor picking up the opposite wall (this distance may change if the work is moved to different spaces)
Minimum distance / distance at which neon reaches full brightness = 50cm
For the neon to keep up / be in real time with the audience so that the piece feels truly interactive.
2. The inverse of 1:
Neon reacts to viewer proximity, starting at 100% brightness and decreasing gradually to 0 brightness as viewer moves closer.
3. Neon becomes brighter / dimmer according to inputted data.
Aims:
I want to be able to display data from a graph using the neon brightness. I’d like to be able to input this data myself in order that I can manually change / update the data.
To give an example - the data might be: Popularity of a search term over a 1 year period.
I would want to input the data points as a % of max popularity e.g (Jan, 100%) (Feb, 23%) (March, 95%) etc. And then have the code display the changing popularity as a change in brightness.
Obviously it can’t be in real time or the neon would have to be on for a year! So one of the features of the code would have to be the ability to set the desired time length for the whole data loop. It would probably be around 1 hour but i’d like to be able to change that length myself so I could experiment with what looks most effective.
Requirements:
I can input as many data points as I need, and the code will adjust the time that each data point gets shown for in order to fit into the selected overall loop time.
4. Neon reacts to noise levels in the room
Aims:
Neon starts at a defined brightness level and then becomes brighter / fades back down to that level according to the noise in the room that is picked up by a mic.
5. Neon flashes on when an email is received
Aims: I want to set up a google alert and have the neon flash whenever I get a google alert notification. Im guessing the easiest way to do this would be to create an email account specifically for this purpose and then the arduino could pick up on any emails received?
Description of requirements/functionality: Please see above
