Description
I'm a carpentry and joinery lecturer teaching City & Guilds 6706 across Levels 1–3 plus apprentices, and I'm looking to build a simple quiz/revision app for my students.
The idea: a mobile-friendly practice test app, similar in style to driving theory test apps, covering the knowledge modules for the 6706 qualification (first fix, second fix, roofs, stairs, bench joinery, etc). Core features I'd need for a first version:Question bank organised by module/topic
Multiple choice format with instant feedback/explanations
Timed mock exam mode
Basic progress tracking per user
A simple way for me to add/edit questions myself without needing a developer each time
I'd like to start with a lean, low-cost first version (web app or simple cross-platform app) to trial with my own students before considering a bigger build. My budget for this initial version is around £2,000–£5,000.
Could you let me know:Whether this is something you'd be able to help with
Roughly how long it would take
Examples of similar quiz/test apps you've built before
Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy, the lean MVP approach makes sense. Before suggesting the best structure, I’d like to understand a couple of things:
1. Do you already have the questions, answer options and explanations prepared digitally, for example in Excel/Word, or would these need to be created/imported as part of the project?
2. For progress tracking, do you mainly want students to see their own scores and weak topics, or would you also like a lecturer dashboard where you can monitor individual/class performance?
3. For the trial version, would you be happy with students accessing it through a mobile-friendly web app, or is installing it as an iOS/Android app important from the beginning?
Happy to have a chat and take it from there.

- Could you provide the modules/topics you want included in the first version, and should questions be organized by level, module, topic, difficulty, or a combination of these?
- How many questions should appear in a mock exam, how long should students have to complete it, and should questions be selected randomly from all modules or according to a specific exam structure similar to the actual qualification?
- Should students see the correct answer and explanation immediately after every question, or only after completing a test? Would you also like explanations, references, images/diagrams, or learning tips attached to individual questions?
- Would you prefer a simple admin dashboard where you can create/edit questions individually, or would it be useful to have bulk import/export through Excel/CSV as well?
