==== Overview ====
We are looking for a developer experienced in working with processing images on the iPhone.
We want to extract handwritten notes from an image on the iPhone. We currently do this using ImageMagick on our web server, we want to move this processing to the iPhone. You can see the current results from ImageMagick using a simple local (adaptive) threshold. This result is then applied as the alpha channel to the source image. An alternative process is to use a median and subtract the result from the source image however we have found this to be slower.
==== Background ====
We have experimented with using a ported version of ImageMagick on the iPhone, however processing takes in excess of 1:30min on an iPhone 4 which isn’t good enough. We are looking for processing < 5-10 seconds.
Similar functionality can be seen in the iPhone app ‘CamScanner’ - http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/camscanner-free/id388627783?mt=8
==== Specification ====
Desired functionality on the iPhone:
Load image from Camera Roll
User crops image interactively by moving sides of a rectangle
User clicks ‘Done’ button
Image is passed to ‘handwriting extraction’ class
High quality and fast handwriting extraction process executed
Save resulting image as a png with transparency to Camera Roll and display on screen
This is to be integrated into an application currently in development so would ideally be a single class for the image processing and another class + view for the cropping. Or however you think it may be best ported to the other app.
Please download the attached images to view examples of our existing process and desired cropping functionality.
Any questions please feel free to drop me an email.
Kind regards,
Lee
