Description
Experience Level: Expert
We are developing a new running/athletics web platform and would like to create an interactive race comparison feature.
The concept is simple:
A user selects a race distance and enters two finishing times.
For example:
Athlete A:
800m
2:04.00
Athlete B:
800m
1:52.00
When the user presses START, two animated runners race around a graphical 400m athletics track.
Each runner moves around the track at the average speed required to achieve their entered finishing time.
The purpose is not initially to reproduce the exact pacing pattern of a real race. It is a fun and highly visual way of showing what the difference between two performances actually looks like.
For example, instead of simply telling an athlete:
“1:52 is 12 seconds quicker than 2:04”
the visualiser shows the two runners racing and demonstrates the physical gap on the track when the faster athlete finishes.
