Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: Ongoing
General information for the website: Home Automation Shop
Description of requirements/features: We currently outsource development of our site - www.vesternet.com
But we're having to fit an increasing amount of development, design & architecture into just the few days a month they can allocate. And this is slowing down progress of the business.
We have a whole roadmap of development planned which can't be done fast enough to keep up with our growth rate.
And on top of this there's a compounding architecture issue whereby our Magento installation (1.6.2) is constantly being edited and developed by lots of different developers - for example if an extension needs installing, we just give FTP to the company who built it, they install and then leave. So there's a load of code tidying up that needs to take place.
We also need a more formal dev, staging & 3rd party access policy (we're hosted on Rackspace). Essentially this is our site growing up from startup to maturity and all the infrastructure which comes with that. Right now its getting dangerous how we manage things.
This will only get worse unless addressed as we also plan big changes like international versions of the site, A/B split testing config, and deeper integration with other applications.
So, we need:
A very experienced Magento Certified Developer who can can manage all of this for us and act as the single point of access to the site/server. This would entail granting access to developers of third party modules etc.
You should also be able to directly help develop the website itself with new features and clean up the existing code base; as well as work with existing / new Magento developers & designers when needed. Finally, we have a team of non-developers who use Magento for CMS changes, data feeds, etc. and you would support them.
You would effectively be responsible for the management and development of the website, and work alongside CEO in moving through the companies roadmap in its fast growth period.
If you've read this full and detailed description, then please be sure to respond in your bid with as much detail as possible about what you think of the job description, anything missed, anything you can/can't bring to the table which has/hasn't been mentioned. Maybe you think this needs several different distinct people or it can all be done by one?
All our team is remote and spread out over 3 continents, so this role would be the same. European is much preferred due to obvious time zone limitations.
We want someone long term who we can trust and rely on fully as we grow. If you're the right person/team - look forward to hearing from you.
(Also please add your certification URL in your bid from the Magento directory: www.magentocommerce.com/certification/directory)
