I have a requirement to add functionality to an Actinic e-commerce website I have been commissioned to build.
The end-client is a flooring company called Barhams based at Newmarket. Their existing site is www.barhams.biz. The issue I face is that most customers have a quantity they require measured in square metres but the wood can only be purchased in packs.
Each floor type is available in packs in different widths (I'll refer to these as "variants").
For example New Royal Classic Oak Prime can be purchased in 190mm or 240mm width – i.e. two variants.
The boards are sold in packs which give a fixed coverage in square metres.
I wish the site to operate in the following way:
The customer first chooses the type of wood they prefer on top level section page.
The "product" page then lists the different variants available.
On this page there is a "pre-calculation" box where the customer firstly selects the variant and then enters the square metres required and presses a button to calculate the number of packs required.
If they are happy, they then press one more confirmation button to add to basket.
My requirement is for you to write the code for this pre-calculation box. I think we need some javascript with a ROUNDUP function to get the nearest pack size but I would be happy to consider alternate solutions.
The nearest we have found to this is on a competitor site:

This box does not have a variant option so it is not completely the same concept but hopefully it might clarify the above. It also presents the result in real time as you type the quantity rather than requiring you to press a calculate button but either approach is acceptable.
It also presents the price of the packs. Ideally we could do this too but if prices had to be hard-coded into the javascript this would be a problem. Ideally prices would be derived from the Actinic database but if this proved to be a challenge, it would be acceptable that the pre-calculation box shows only the number of packs and the customer sees the cost when he/she moves to the checkout.
It is complicated by the fact that each wood type comes in different variants so ideally the code would be supplied in such a way that I could tweak the variables and make up different page templates.
I hope this is clear. More than happy to clarify anything.
