Estimated project duration: less than 1 week
First I need a database in Access that can hold a some tables (the details are below), and second an Excel file that can connect to the database and retrieve and display values periodically.
There will be many people who will use this Excel file simultaneously and each person will work from a separate computer, so the update must be done over the network. There should be two types of access rights to the excel file, one is the "administrator" who can change the file and one that has read only access.
The excel file should have
1) a button that starts the update process (connects to the database
2) a table with the following columns:
name,id, sum, current_text
name, id, and current_text will be retrieved by the database and are the keys to the main database table that holds the results (text_table).
3) in a separate worksheet a static table (this is a map, see below the values): text, value
(text is a small string, value is a number)
4) when a user clicks on the track button it should save on the database the time the user is connected and getting updates. For instance, if a user starts by clicking the update button at 12:00 and closes the file at 15:20, the system should log in the database that the specific user started at that time and date, and the end time and date.
5) per id (both name and id are unique) the system should generate and update a hidden worksheet that has the retrieved the current_text an the past_text fields from the from the database table: text_table. The two fields are comma separated strings. You will need to split both fields by comma (no strange characters in the text) and and put them in the worksheet. During each update please delete the past values in the worksheet and then insert the new ones.
6) the column text will show a comma separated list of the retrieved text that is in the column latest_text of that specific table (retrieved from text_table)
7) the count is a function of the map (step 3 above) and the text column in the hidden worksheet of the table, simply use the map to assign a numerical value to each row in the hidden worksheet and display the sum.
The update should be done every half a second. On average there should be 25 unique ids for which data will need to be updated.
The database should have the following tables:
1)
Name: text_table
Columns: name, id, table_name, past_text, current_text
2)
Name: users
Columns: user_name, start_date, start_time, end_date, end_time
Step 3 table (in the excel)
text,value
str1,5
str2,-1
