Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: less than 1 week
General information for the business: We have a Access 2013 database that uses separate FE and BE. We want to migrate the BE to SQL so that it is a) faster; b) more resilient, and c) easier to display info in our CRM system (that is Filemaker based, so integrated easily with SQL but not Access)
Database management system (DBMS): Microsoft Access
Description of requirements/functionality: The Access 2013 database is used to administer Customer Orders, and integrates with Sage 50. It is called 'SOP' Sales Order Processing. It has a separate back end and front end. It has approx 30 tables (most of which only contain a few fields) and a relatively simple structure, and c.10 Forms/layouts. We have developed a new CRM system in Filemaker, and want to display (i.e. read only) Customer Order data in Filemaker...but understand that Filemaker cannot display Access 2013 BE data, but it can easily link to SQL. As an ancillary benefit, the Access database is running slowly when it has more than 2 people logged in...so we are hoping speed will increase.
We asked the Access developer to do this migration - but he really struggled...but then we learned that he has not really done any migration of this type for many years, and is not familiar with SQL. His feedback is shown in the attachment - but I suspect you may want to query how he approached the task. As you will see...his heart in not really in it...so we need to find someone to replace him.
Specific technologies required: Access 2013, SQL
Extra notes: I am specifically looking for someone who has experience of doing a similar migration before (and therefore who has overcome challenges before).
We already have a SQL server set up, with fast VPN access - so hope that most/all of the work could be done remotely.
Work with financial databases, and understanding of accounting terms and concepts would be helpful.
