Experience Level: Intermediate
I am a researcher and need to create a simple database that can do many to many relationships. I have a list of around 500 people and need to capture the different connections between them all and the different types of connections. I do not require any data analysis or data mining. I have the raw data, I just need the blank database so I can populate it and run reports. I am currently capturing the data in excel. I do not require anyone to port the data. Whenever I have asked for this before, I keep getting over complicated, expensive solutions. I am after something straightforward. In the past, I would have used something like Access but am open to other suggestions.

    Unfortunately, I can't share the file on a public forum but to give an example. I have a list of people, all connected to Richard. Each is connected in multiple ways, so for example James is connected by marriage and also through military service and also through his job. Chris is connected to James in multiple ways and is also connected to Richard. I need the database to be living and easy to add new data to on an ongoing basis. Then I need to run reports on say everyone Chris is connected to who is also connected to Richard, or everyone who is connected to Richard through marriage. I don't need dashboards or insights and no automatic uploads etc or consolidation of files is required.

    Do you need this in any database like MySQL etc ?

    Any database is fine but something simple. I don't need or want it to be web based and I don't need or want to share it with anyone else as it is my research. Thanks.
