These devices are installed remotely and used to monitor utility consumption in order to help clients manage and reduce their consumption. WaterGroup is seeking assistance with its smart monitoring database system and its automatic data update functionality. An MS Access database (SM3S) is used to manage the smart monitoring devices. All required data updates are handled manually between Outpost web UI and SM3S.
The aim is to automate the data flow towards the SM3S side using the available REST option. The figure below illustrates the proposed data flow. The ‘REST Agent’ which shall be an application running permanently and independently from SM3S UI.
The REST Agent needs to be developed with MS Visual Studio Express (Community 2015 version). Furthermore, the major part of this works will be to develop the transformation functionality (i.e. transformation of REST result XML data into the MS Access DB file) and the necessary sync rules for existing and new data. The following sections will supply further information on Outpost REST API, Outpost XML data structure and REST Agent requirements.
