Description
Experience Level: Entry
Hi
Happy Christmas. I work for a charity and some volunteers have developed this WebApp dem.miricyl.org. It is like booking.com but the aim is to help young people affected by mental illness find the right services for them both locally and nationally.
The search criteria the young person puts in are on the first 4 screens, as follows
Screen 1: 'Need' I am feeling 'anxious' or 'depressed' or I am in 'debt' or 'bereaved'. Currently we restrict on this and it is AND (which is a mistake it should be OR and as a start maybe we should limit this to only 3 choices
Screen 2: "Type of service" (phone, text, chat, free service)
Screen 3: "Personalisation" student, LGBT, BAME (ethnic minority) etc
Screen 4 post code (zip code)
Screen 5 the results showing different cards for each organisation
I dont think our current logic is correct. I would like to work with someone to help me see the wood from the trees as to what the best logic tree should be to provide the most relevant results for our young users. I attach our current use cases and the xls with the data. Maybe it is possible to programme the data in xls to show us results so that I know what the logic outputs will be before getting the programmers to code it. But this may not be possible/necessary.
It is not all wrong BUT I think we should wipe the slate screen and start from scratch. There is nothing set in stone. Not even the screens.
We also need to consider how the results of the logic tree should best be displayed on the result cards. I am separately advertising for a designer or maybe you already work with one.
Background: at the extremes one organisation can help one 'need' and have up to 12 services (screen 2). But only 3 are currently shown in the dark blue boxes on the cards in the final screen, something a designer will need to consider. On the other hand an organisation can help more than one 'need' and have several services for each need. The xls shows one 'service' per row, as defined by the Short service description. The logic with the designer will decide what is shown in the results cards.
Also to consider is that we are going to add a filter screen which is not in the current WebApp. So this might solve some issues. You can see the design of the filter 2/3 way down this page on the right https://scene.zeplin.io/project/5f6bd892193ec94b2d8732bd.
I am expecting to work with you so you can turn my (and your) intuitive business requirements into the logic the developers need and to deliver use cases for them to test against. With a little flexibility I would like this finalised by 31 December. It would be great to hear from you.

Hi Alex
See from the use cases, that you are generating a case for each combination of responses in the 4 option drop downs. This could grow expenentially. Would you be interested in perhaps looking at a different approach where the services/properties of each orginisation are ranked with a weighting to the strengths/facilities of each orginistation and then (with a location weighting relative to the users location) a ordering of suitability can be generated. Clearly where the facility required is not supplied then this would generate a zero weight.
Regards
Dave
