Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: less than 1 week
I have a simple investment fund reporting tool in Excel which shows the performance of funds across a couple of dimensions.
It currently works by pasting the output of MS Money into a ‘Report Generator’ Excel spreadsheet along with currency rates. A macro then converts this into a new Google Drive stored file with a pivot table and display tabs showing:
• A Pie chart showing investment share by investment type with the ability to add or remove investment types from the view
• A Scatter plot showing return versus investment type with the ability to add or remove investment types from the view
MS Money is no longer supported so in the future I would like to source most of the data from www.morningstar.co.uk (for which I have a subscription) with just a small amount of data coming from legacy MS Money. Morning Star provide an export button to excel format on their website with a number of display tabs per portfolio.
As such in Phase 1 I need:
• An automated macro script which can extract Morningstar data using their export facility for five information tabs (Snapshot, Performance, Gain/Loss, Fundamental, Cashflow) for each portfolio into Excel or similar database.
• Formatting of this data and combining with the MS Money data to feed the existing Report Generator to create the display tabs
• Refinement of the display tabs:
o Addition of a simple return graphs (1 day/week/month/ year/ 3 year etc) by portfolio or investment type
o Ability to filter all three display tabs by a selection of portfolios
Later project phases will then make use of the more extensive data from Morningstar to enhance/extend display tabs through extraction from the pivot table.
It would be great to display the display tabs on a web page.
I am of course happy to consider the use of tools other than Excel if they provide better visualization are web enabled and not expensive to use? I am not that familiar with Power BI from MS but suspect this may be such a tool for which I believe the basic licence is covered under my Windows 365 subscription.
I would like the work completed within 7 days – the sooner the better
