Description
The target is to move to a current PHP version (ideally PHP 8.5, subject to testing).
Job tasks:
• Create a full copy of the website on an independent staging server.
• Audit and assess any compatibility issues with current theme, add-ons, plugins or custom code.
• Update as required.
• Upgrade PHP on the staging environment and resolve any resulting errors.
• Thoroughly test the site's front end, admin area, forms and key functionality.
• Final review of the site on the staging server.
• Deploy website back onto live server.
NOTES:
Staging Server:
The developer must provide their own staging/test server, with access provided to us so that we can review and approve the updated site before live deployment. The live site must remain fully active until the upgraded version is ready to be deployed.
Elementor + Astra:
The website is built using Elementor Pro with the Astra Pro theme. There is also strong CSS customisation.
Plugins:
Although most pages are straightforward brochure-style, the site contains a number of additional functional plugins which will require testing following the PHP and plugin updates. We have approximately 25 active plugins to be updated. However, we do NOT use Woo-commerce or any other shop plugin.
SUMMARY:
Applicants should have experience with WordPress, PHP upgrades, plugin compatibility, staging environments and live deployments.

Hi Neil,
- Can you provide access to the current hosting and WordPress admin?
- Are all 25 plugins currently licensed and available for updates?
- Do you have a preferred staging server location or hosting environment? -

Hi Neil, Could you please send the latest site backup or files/database export, temporary WordPress admin access, hosting/PHP details, and a short list of any critical forms, integrations, or custom functionality. Once received, we can begin immediately.
-

-/ Could you please share the current website URL so I can review its structure and functionality?
-/ Which hosting provider is currently being used, and does it already support PHP 8.4/8.5?
-/ Are there any custom-developed plugins, PHP snippets, child-theme modifications, or integrations that we should pay special attention to during the compatibility audit? -

Hi Neil,
#Could you provide the current WordPress version, hosting details and full list of the approximately 25 active plugins?
#Is PHP 8.5 mandatory, or would PHP 8.4 be acceptable if any existing plugin/custom code has compatibility limitations?
#Are there any custom PHP functions, child-theme modifications or bespoke integrations that we should be aware of?
#Which forms, integrations and website functions are considered critical and should receive additional testing?
#Will you provide access to the live WordPress/admin and hosting environment, and are there any specific requirements for the staging server I provide? -

Hi Neil, are there any server-level dependencies we need to replicate on staging, such as custom cron jobs, PHP extensions, SMTP settings, .htaccess rules, or licensed plugins, so the PHP 8.5 testing matches the live environment accurately?

Hi Neil
I have some questions.
What is your current WordPress version, and what PHP version is the live server currently running?
Do you already have access to the hosting/server, or will you provide credentials for the live environment?
Are all ~25 plugins currently licensed and up to date, especially Elementor Pro and Astra Pro?
Are there any custom PHP functions, child-theme modifications, or custom plugins that need special attention?
Which forms, integrations, or other site functionality are considered business-critical?
Do you have a preferred staging server setup, or should I provide and configure the independent staging environment?
Is PHP 8.5 mandatory, or is PHP 8.4 acceptable if a specific plugin/theme is not yet fully compatible?
Do you have a recent full backup of the live website and database?
Are there any known issues on the current PHP 8.0 version that should be addressed during the upgrade?
After staging approval, is there a preferred date/time for the final production deployment?
