Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: less than 1 week
General information for the website: Large blog
Description of requirements/features: General information for the website: Online Magazine
Kind of development: Customization of existing website
Description of every page/module:
WE ARE A WEB DEVELOPMENT FIRM CALLED JUICE ROCKET (.com). THIS JOB IS TO WORK WITH US ON A CLIENT SITE. IF YOU DO A GOOD JOB AND DELIVER ON TIME, YOU WILL CONTINUE TO GET WORK FROM US.
---------------------------------
Description of requirements/features:
Best practices should be used. Make the code you add very clean and according to codex.
Changes to make:
#1 - Make the site search also search author names and pull up articles by that author.
#2 - IMAGES:
A) Cropping: The site (www.urbanette.com) is a blog that has about 20 writers that will upload images of all sizes/shapes, so images do need to be cropped automatically, and all sizes should be added to the Featured Image cropping tool (we are using Yoimages plugin), clearly named so writers know which ones to fix (if the automatic crop doesn't look right.) Simplify the image cropper and remove crop options they don’t need… Describe/label the image sizes so we know where they will be displayed, that way, if one isn't cropped correctly, we will know which size needs fixing. When we upload featured images, it should automatically crop them to the sizes needed, so that in case someone forgets to crop, it doesn't do something weird like squishing down the original size image.
B) The post/not-featured image sizes should be changed to be controlled in the WordPress settings, not the theme.
C) Height/width: Make sure ALL images have height and width specified (but are still responsive). This should be easy for thumbnails, but will also have to happen with post images.
D) Unused images: Remove unused images that were cropped for the old theme and no longer used, to save space on the server. Find a way to save the original images (which aren't pulled into the theme) in a separate folder so the uploads folder is smaller and easier to back up.
E) Image align right/left issue: see http://i.imgur.com/WP7VCzd.png and http://i.imgur.com/QtISqVB.png (when next to H2/3).
F) Commentator's photos: Find a way to pull in images of people who post comments from their email. Also, lots of the comments are linked to their facebook profile, so you could pull from there. Do not use a plugin for this.
G) Alt tags: Make the alt tags on all images automatically be specified as the article title.
#2 - Tiny text edits: At the top of articles/posts, it says the category name; make that a link without changing the look of it. Remove the line after the author name in all pages; see: http://i.imgur.com/OgBWJUh.png Reduce the font size for image captions, and make italic. Remove the "at" after commenter's names.
#3 - Read More tag: Make the theme work with WordPress’ default “Insert Read More” tag/page break/next page function in the editor. We'll supply the graphics for Previous and Continue buttons.
#4 - Make the infinite scroll trigger on the category pages to load more posts be right before the reader can see the last visible article, so the reader doesn't have to wait while more load.
#5 - The previous theme used with this site was Newses, which had a rating system built-in. We need that exact same rating system code to be copied from Newses and added to this theme, so that the ratings entered while they used the Newses theme will show up again.
#6 - Post Statuses: The purpose of this task is to Deactivate the Edit Flow plugin that is being used, but to keep the flow it created, using the codex methods: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/register_post_status add the same custom post statuses Urbanette.com is already using via the Edit Flow plugin. Then, find a way to carefully keep all posts in the correct status even when Edit Flow is deactivated. http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Status#Default_Statuses You'll need to add a column in the Posts admin (the way the Edit Flow plugin did) called Status. http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Filter_Reference/manage_posts_columns Note: Articles that are not set as PUBLISHED should never be live. Despite a post being set to "public", if it's not set to PUBLISHED, it should not be public. ** Only ADMIN's should be able to PUBLISH a post so it's live. **
#7 - Minify and defer the parsing of JavaScript.
#8 - Make the RSS feed show the Large size featured image.
