Description
Experience Level: Expert
General information for the business: We are consultants to the financial services industry, gathering, analysing and visualising data on behalf of our clients
Kind of development: New program from scratch
Description of requirements/functionality: The Opportunity:
I am looking for an experienced Qlik Sense developer with experience in building custom visualisation extensions.
Background:
We are trying to assess Qlik Sense as a suitable replacement for SAS in producing custom visualisations. We have been working with a partner on a proof of concept. They have managed to produce some of what we need using standard Qlik Sense visualisations, but they don’t have in-house skills in building custom extensions.
Objectives:
We have three visualisations we currently produce using SAS. We believe these represent the more challenging visualisations we produce and it’s unlikely that we would be able to generate them from any commercial product using out-of-the-box visualisations.
We are looking for someone to produce Qlik Sense extensions that represent these three visualisations. Because this is a proof of concept, we want the extensions to produce the visualisations accurately, including shapes, colours and fonts. We are not concerned about the interactive capabilities of the visualisations as the current visualisations are embedded as static charts in PowerPoint presentations.
We are not concerned about data gathering or any ETL processes. We will provide the data in summary form and it should be possible to produce the visualisations directly from the data without further manipulation.
Steps:
The steps will be:
1. If I am happy that your skills are appropriate for the assignment, I will send you a non-disclosure agreement to sign.
2. Once the NDA is signed and returned, I will send you the sample charts and the underlying data from which the charts must be produced. The data has already been summarised.
3. You will confirm that you can produce the charts and provide me with an estimate of the time required to produce them, making an allowance for a 1-2 hour Skype presentation at the end.
4. I will confirm the assignment can proceed.
5. You will produce the charts.
6. You will conduct a 1-2 hour Skype presentation to my technical team at a mutually convenient time during which you will demonstrate the techniques you used, particularly showing which parts you able to produce without coding, and which parts required coding.
Possible future opportunities:
Our aim with this exercise is to demonstrate whether Qlik Sense is capable of delivering the visualisations we produce today. If we reach that point, we will plan a project to switch from using SAS to using Qlik Sense. It is highly likely that we will need external assistance either in producing custom visualisations or possibly assisting our team in learning Qlik Sense. Once we have made the change and are using Qlik Sense, we are likely to have overload work going forward that we will seek external assistance for.
Specific technologies required: Qlik Sense
