Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the business: We're an online game server provider.
Kind of development: New program from scratch
Description of requirements/functionality: Hello,
I'm looking for a software developer that's able to build a lightweight application to run on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2012 R2 preferably as a background service.
The software needs to use winpcap locally to monitor the inbound UDP packets per second rate to system IP addresses and calculate an average over a 15 second period. Should the next UDP input average be 5000 packets per second higher than the last reading it needs to trigger a web API action that will activate our DDoS filtering system on our network for the IP address on the server.
And after 15 minutes issue another API call which would turn the DDoS filter off and put it into a standby / sensor mode.
It would be preferable that this would run as a background service with a management GUI, or even just saving certain details to a log file would work. So that we can see date / time stamps that it triggered the DDoS filter action, and the average PPS rate at that time.
The reason behind requiring this piece of software is because game servers are very sensitive to excess UDP traffic being directed at them. Using flow exports to monitor the network as a whole works well to a certain degree at detecting fairly large attacks, but when it comes to attacks which use small packets this increases the pps rate and strain on the CPU, but lowers the mbps rate and odds of being detected by the flow sensors which would then trigger the DDoS filter.
Having a local monitoring probe like this should trigger the filter on demand when needed to catch these smaller attacks we're seeing quite regularly affecting customer servers from time to time.
Thank you for your time.

Hey,
We would like to schedule a Skype call or chat meeting to brainstorm on the deliverable as we believe in consultative selling and not just agreeing to the scope to get a project. I am sure we have some relevant ideas to be shared in order to give your business an edge over the others operating in the same vertical.
Look forward to your reply.
Thanks & Regards,
Mukesh.
