General information for the business: I am a commercial real estate broker using MapInfo and Anysite GIS softward published by Pitnew Bowes
Description of requirements/functionality: I am a real estate broker, and I need to keep track of a lot of properties. I find the best way for me to do that is to put them on a map. I have the Anysite software on my computer, and I have been doing this by setting custom points on Anysite. Then I use the Info tool to bring up a table for each point on the side of the screen. I can then type information into the table that I can refer to later. So far, so good; but this method has limitations:
• Anysite does not support shape files, and some things I would like to add to the map, like school attendance zones, are available as shape files.
• There are no drawing tools, so I can’t draw the boundaries of a parcel of land.
• The table that pops up on Anysite does not have the fields that would like to have, and I haven’t found a way to alter them.
• Anysite does not support raster files. Sometimes I will want to place and register an aerial photo on my map.
• Anysite does not support hotlinks to a URL or a file location on my hard drive. I would like to be able to link to both, because I use a web based customer relationship management (CRM) software, and there is a specific URL for each property in my CRM that I would like to use my maps to link to.
• I want to put different types of properties on different layers so that I can see all of them at once or only some of them.
I’ve been playing around with a trial version of MapInfo Pro. I’ve been able to export my Anysite custom points to a workspace file; and I can open the workspace file in MapInfo and see everything that I typed into the Anysite popup tables, including the labels. I’ve even been able to get the hotlink function to work with some of the records.
OS requirements: Windows
