General information for the business: I sell financial analysis software and want to automatically post charts and alerts to Facebook
Description of every module: My financial analysis software is called Sentient Trader. It analyzes cycles in financial markets. I have that software running on a server and generating tweets with images when something happens in the markets. You can see many examples on Twitter (@SentientTrader). I would like to also send similar posts to my Facebook page (search for @sentienttrader and you will see the Facebook page). Twitter's forwarding to Facebook does not work with tweets created by API.
I wrote the code for sending the tweets myself, and it is about 70 lines of code and another 100 lines for uploading the image to Twitter. It uses the HttpWebRequest class to send the tweets.
I need a similar implementation to send the text and image to Facebook. It could either be simple direct code using a class such as HttpWebRequest, or it could use a Facebook SDK library, as long as that library can be compiled into the VB.NET v2.0 application (a DLL or .NET library in other words)
Description of requirements/functionality: I need the code to work as a separate function such as this:
Private function PostToFacebook(ByVal txt as String, ByVal path_to_image as string, ByRef ex as Exception) as Boolean ...
I would call the function with the text content of the post and the path to the image (on the local server drive) for that to be uploaded.
The function should perform authorization using values which will be variables, such as:
Dim auth_code as String = "************"
In that way I can change those values to the correct ones for my page.
I will need you to test the code using your own page please because I do not want test posts appearing on the Sentient Trader page.
If any problems or errors are encountered the exception should be returned in the "ex" variable passed by reference to the function. I will handle the errors separately (probably just ignore them).
To be clear I need the code to do only one thing ... post to the page with an image. I do not need any of the other functionality that the Facebook API offers
Specific technologies required: The code must be written in VB.NET v2.0 I realize this is not the latest technology, but it needs to fit into a current application that I am using.
OS requirements: Windows
Extra notes: I am attaching a recent tweet. The code I need will send the same chart and a bit more text (with a more friendly explanation) to my Facebook page.
