Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: 3 - 4 weeks
General information for the business: We produce multi-carrier (parcel carrier) web based, SaaS software
Description of requirements/functionality: We are looking for a mobile computer programmer to develop a collection, scanning and delivery software system which works in conjunction with our already established multi-carrier shipping solution.
The solution will utilise the C# programming language, the Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 operating systems and a mobile computer with integrated barcode scanner (likely to be a Symbol industrial device such as the MC70).
The software will provide the following functionality:
• Perform a login to the central database to verify user credentials (and store them later for data transmissions)
• Scan a series of parcel barcodes along with a signature and report them back to the central application (deemed as a customer ‘collection or delivery’), recording the user who performed the action
• Allow a series of parcel barcodes to be scanned and apply a specific status to them such as ‘In the warehouse’ (deemed as a ‘cross docking’ operation), recording the user who performed the action
• Allow a single parcel barcode to be scanned and show details retrieved from the central application such as shipper, date shipped, current status, etc.
• Have some form of work flow error checking such as indicating if a parcel is in the wrong status or doesn't exist on the central database
The software will utilise an existing set of web services to interact with parent system’s database. These web services are built on Microsoft’s .NET 2.0 ASMX technologies and documentation is available of their implementation on request.
The device must interact with the web service over either a WLAN or a GPRS connection. Since the web service may not be contactable under certain conditions (e.g. in an area with no mobile data connectivity), the software must cache data locally on the device so it can be transmitted when a connection to the central system is possible.
The successful candidate and/or company will have experience in the C# programming language, .NET framework, writing software for the Windows Mobile platform and preferably experience writing similar software systems.
