Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: Ongoing
Software Engineers at MetaBroadcast build practical distributed systems. We’re the first to adopt AWS, NoSQL (Mongo, then Cassandra), Hadoop, Storm, Spark (and whatever comes next) when they help us solve difficult problems. We code in Java (Minimalist Java, we call it, to keep it palatable), with the occasional prototype in other languages. We work hard to make sure our build, test, monitoring and hosting systems are nice to use. Our blog posts and talks have established an audience.
The systems we run process huge volumes of data about broadcast and live events (TV, radio, music, social, etc.) in realtime or near. We run sophisticated analytics to help end-users find content, and help customers understand how their content is used. Performance is really important: we want our user interfaces to be fast and responsive, and we process too much data to afford the costs of badly engineered systems.
We are makers — we spend most of our time making things, not just talking about making things. We’ll always be smaller than other teams with comparable ambitions, and we believe this makes for a better life. Everyone can have their say, work on things that matter to them, and see the results go live to millions. Joining us means real challenges, hard but satisfying work, plenty of opportunity to learn about and use new technology. And quite a few perks.
