Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
General information for the business: Research and Development of Nanotechnology
Kind of development: Customization of existing program
Description of every module: Docear is an open-source mind mapping content organization tool, and I would like to enhance it's functionality concerning the handling of media to help suit my needs.
Description of requirements/functionality: First, I am working on a MAC but I would like this to work for all platforms that Docear is also supported on; Mac, Windows, and Linux.
I would like to incorporate support for video and quick previewing of media files within Docear's mind maps themselves.
I would like to be able to drop video into a node and see a preview still (just like in the normal OS browser), but then be allowed to play/preview the video directly without having to actually open the file and leave Docear.
I am after similar functionality that Mac Finder has, where you can quickly preview images and video right there, without opening a separate program window.
Specific technologies required: Freelancer must already be familiar or have experience with program, Docear.
OS requirements: Windows, Mac OS, Linux
Extra notes: These were some notes from Docear.org concerning recruitment of outside help:
"
If you consider to ask an external software developer for help, please consider the following issue:
Docear has a superb add-on system. Add-ons are like little independent programs that extend or change the functionality of Docear. That means, if a new feature is realized as an add-on, it will most likely work with future versions of Docear. So you can use your feature even if we do not integrate it directly into Docear. The downside: It takes at least 10 to 20 hours for an experienced software developer to understand how the add-on system of Docear works. A not so skilled programmer might even need a week or so. Alternatively, the freelancer could just modify the current release of Docear. This will take significantly less time but it has a downside, too: There is no guarantee that the new functions will work with future versions of Docear. Of course you can send us the modifications and we will have a look at them and maybe we will integrate them into the main branch of Docear. But maybe we won’t.
