Description
Experience Level: Expert
General information for the business: we produce reports about extent of mobile phone coverage in buildings
Kind of development: Customization of existing program
Description of every module: progranmming using with pitney Bowes Mapinfo Pro product v16. (GIS visualisation software) using MapBasic
Description of requirements/functionality: Description of existing manual process that requires automating within Mapinfo Pro.
Two mobile phone apps are used to collect coverage data in the form of CSV and BMP files. This raw data is then transformed into various chart, tabular, image and map content and combined with some written content to produce a final report document using a standardised template that is the customer deliverable.
For the map content we are currently using Pitney Bowes MapInfo Pro version 16.02 64-bit to create workspaces containing map based point data that is output as a series of images in a final report. It is this process that requires automation in Pitney Bowes MapBasic software.
The raw data is stored in a SQL Server 2016 database. The following MapInfo steps highlight the current process required to generate the final image;
1. Registration of an image file (BMP or PNG) to produce a georeferenced (latitude/longitude) image in MapInfo i.e. a map. This forms the base map layer for the point data
2. Retrieve relevant dataset(s) from SQL Server Database, based on user input parameters. This supplies the point data metric and latitude/longitude
3. Plot the point data metric on the base map
4. Apply a predefined Theme
5. Create a Legend
6. Create a Layout
7. Output the final Layout as BMP for the final report.
Note: this process is repeated a number of times for each report using different image files, metrics and/or Themes
Specific technologies required: MapBasic programming skills
OS requirements: Windows
Extra notes: Please provide any evidence of previous Mapinfo/MapBasic programming skills and experience.
