Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Hi,
I could really use the help of someone with experience in video game sound design. I'm making a word game for mobile with a Victorian theme/feel. I have the background music (I worked with Abigail Fox. Know her?) and love it as well as a number of Victorian sound effects that I think are fun and work well, but the main gameplay needs SFX and I can't for the life of me figure out what to use.
I need the sounds to:
1) work with the theme (can't be sci-fi or futuristic sounding) and possibly on top of Abigail's music (as it stands, I fade the MX out when the player leaving the home/opening screen)
2) give the players the needed feedback for the following events/states:
i) answer matches author's word choice
ii) answer does not match BUT IS NOT WRONG
iii) challenge timed out
iv) answer IS wrong
v) level completed successfully
vi) game over (level failed)
3) As events i, ii and iii are very frequent, the sounds need to be informative but unobtrusive, i.e. not drive the player crazy. I think this means using very brief sounds ( < 250 ms) in several slight variations for each type of event and using them in random order.
Attached is a short clip of the opening scene with quiet music in the background and a few events that have SFX for a style reference. Also attached is a screenshot to give you an idea of what the game involves:
A text is scrolling up the screen with some words/phrases omitted. When a line with a missing word reaches the point above the decorative panels, the scrolling pauses to allow the player to select one of the proposed words. There is no "wrong" answer, just an accurate or authentic answer (the original author or traditional word) and a "novel" answer. After completing a text, the player can see the whole thing with the words he or she selected and share the result via email/social media.
I look forward to receiving proposals for this project. In your proposal, please specify how many unique sound files you would deliver.
