My name is Dan Sleater and I have been working in mobile telecoms design for a while now. Telecoms is a fast paced industry whereby the client wants things drawn up from a survey within 2 weeks, and any corner cutting would be widely welcomed. All the mobile operators, eg O2 & Vodafone want to get their sites (masts with antennas on) upgraded as quick as possible to keep in competition with each other on who can get there high speed network up first. There is always new technology available to them, so new antennas are needed with the onset of 3G then 4G etc. With this, we as telecoms designers need to produce a set of drawings done in AutoCAD for planning and construction purposes. A lot of the drawings are made up of schedules which we have to fill in and work out various figures for. So I have a few ideas really which could be possibly end up as a range of products/tools for use within AutoCAD.

I think corners can be cut elsewhere too right from the point of survey whereby any info the surveyor inputs into an excel or word survey on site, can then be automatically added to tables within AutoCAD. These tools would be unprecedented in the telecoms industry and could be sold to design houses worldwide.
I am just wondering how much a project like this would cost also. Please ignore the below budget as need to get an idea of how much this could cost.
Description of requirements/functionality: A simple first idea would be a feeder loss/length calculator.
This is a basic function whereby you would draw a line in AutoCAD on both plan and elevation from the equipment to the antenna, input in the size of the feeder (cable) and also the jumpers which would then give a feeder loss/length in table format. A simple explanation can be found here:
