SQL Server Guru Required!!!
I need a SQL developer to build a “task queue manager” compatible with SQL 2012 onwards.
The queue manager needs to be able to:
1 - take a list of tasks to execute from a table
2 - based on a defined variable number, execute a set number of tasks in parallel (typically executing stored procedures)
3 - as each task completes, execute the next task based on a dependency grouping field on each task (I.e the other tasks that constrain it)
4 - ensure that as many tasks as possible run in parallel (up to the defined set number)
5 - ensure tasks are set to a defined batch and that many batches can be running at the same time
6 - have error handling to write back error messages from each task and fail the batch if a failure occurs and the task has an error severity of critical. If not critical then the batch continues but completes with warnings.
Basically what is required is a meta data driven queue manager that should have the same “task management functionality” that SSIS could perform (I.e dependency’s flowing down multiple streams, tasks are executed in parallel etc).
As much in built SQL Server functionality should be reused if appropriate (I.e using the service broker if this is a good idea?)
