The project is for an online diary of events. It will be arranged by categories and sub categories, location and date. All must be independently searchable.
Categories & Events
If there is a music category, there will be sub categories for Rock, Blues, Orchestral etc.
Similarly there should be location sub categories, e.g. Area 1 would be a main category, Cheshire would be a sub category of Area 1
There must be the facility to have weekly or monthly recurring events
e.g. if there is an event on the last Thursday of each month, we must be able to list that once and have it appear until it is %u2018switched off%u2019 or expires.
Submitting an event.
Visitors to the site must be able to submit events for insertion. The submission form needs to contain the following fields:
Here are the fields we think are needed:
Name of Event:
Organiser:
Organiser's Website:
Town/Village:
Department:
Date of Event: (format of date to be dd/mm/yyyy)
Time of Event:
Brief Description of Event: (this field needs to allow for at least 500 characters)
Event Address: (this field needs to allow for at least 500 characters)
Contact Person:
Contact Telephone:
Contact Email:
There must also be an anti-robot security question such as %u20189 4 = ?%u2019
Displays & Searches:
There needs to be link to display all events by:
Today%u2019s events
This week%u2019s events
This month%u2019s events
Events in ? Area for this week or this month
Events in Sub Area for this week or month
Category %u2013 probably no need to have a sub-category search
Visitors should be able to search for events by category/sub category or location and/or by date.
So, having got all the above, a visitor to be able to search for Music/Rock/Area 1 /Cheshire /dd/mm/yyyy
There should general searches so that a visitor can see all Orchestral events for Area 1 or all Blues events for all areas, this may already be covered by the searches outlined above.
The site owner must have complete control of the names of all categories.
The site owner needs to be to add users who can add and approve events, these users need to have password controlled access.
Advertising
The site needs to have the facility to add banner adverts that can be rotated. These should be available in %u2018standard%u2019 sizes. This does not need to be very complicated. We need allocate a number of displays to a given banner and count the number of %u2018clicks%u2019 for each banner. We need to be able to place the banners in specific areas on the page, these can be preset in the page template.
We should be able to have %u2018featured advertisers%u2019 (or sponsors) on the front page and subsequent pages.
General design.
The site design should be fairly simple but reasonably eye catching. The main pages need to be in HTML which can be edited with a %u2018standard%u2019 design package such a Dreamweaver with callout boxes for the php code.
