Description
Experience Level: Expert
I run a small construction consultancy, which provides estimating, planning and project management services for small contractors.
So far we have been using an in-house created estimating system based on Excel, which gave us great flexibility, however has many limitations in terms of precision and ease of use. We have been looking into several off the shelf options but have found them limited in choice and features.
The closes to meeting our requirements is Fast Estimate 6 by Estek, which is great for pricing up jobs, but lacks in reporting features which renders it useless for consequent project management tasks we normally carry out. They were also unwilling to create custom reports for us.
We are currently considering buying in a custom designed system based on a database, which would allow us to develop further. Being Mac users we thought about using Filemaker as the platform, however this is not important as long as it does what we need it to do.
As lack the required IT knowledge I am not 100% sure that a database would be best suited for our requirements, the features we will require are similar to those listed for Fast Estimate but with flexible reporting to csv, pdf and excel.
As this is a preliminary enquiry we are looking for proposes to suggest feasibility and initial proposal in terms of platform, features feasibility, time of development and budget. We do understand this may change as the list of features is finalised.
We are looking for a long term relationship with a professional who will continually help us develop the system.
Obviously we do expect to input all construction specific data ourselves.
Happy bidding!
